You deserve to be nourished. You deserve to care for your body without judgement.

A space for healing

Private nutrition therapy from Bonnie Cavanagh, MS RD is available for clients living in Oregon.

Individual nutrition counseling is available for diabetes care, weight loss, women’s health, weight neutral, and surgery preparation and recovery. Provided in a gentle, non-judgemental environment, you can feel comfortable knowing you have someone on your side to help you with your day to day health.

What is Nutrition Therapy?

Nutrition therapy is evidenced based nutrition interventions fused with talk therapy. Sessions involve an depth medical history assessment, followed by a personalized roadmap with recommendations that are tailored specifically to you. Based on your needs, we often talk about much more than just “diet recommendations.” You are given the space to release the parts of yourself connected to diet culture, body image, and self-critique in a safe environment. Nutrition weaves itself into all areas of our life, and I guide you through tending to the parts that are holding you back from making lasting change.

I don’t want to lose weight, what will we talk about?

Many of my patients are not seeking to lose weight, but rather improve areas of their health in a weight neutral environment. No one knows your body better than yourself, and I happily meet you with whatever goals you have. This can be improving lab results, reducing cancer risk, improving digestion, or improving your relationship with food.

How do I know if this is covered by my insurance?

Most insurances will cover medical nutrition therapy provided by a registered dietitian at little to no cost to you. If you are interested in scheduling, I will send you an easy to follow set of questions to call and ask your insurance company.

I’m thinking about working on my health and eating, but I’m not totally sure I’m ready. Should I wait to schedule?

This is the biggest trap people fall into! If we wait until we are fully ready with no distractions, we will never make change. If you are thinking about it… schedule! Part of our therapeutic work is to help you uncover what is holding you back. Support is a huge predictor of whether people successfully make the changes they are seeking. Change is an ongoing process. And you should expect to move forward, backward, and sideways throughout the duration of sessions.

How long should I expect to work with you before I see results?

This depends on what we are treating. Most people can expect to see me for at least 6-12 months, and some patients choose to be seen regularly for up to 24 months. For measurable changes in lab work or weight loss, a minimum of 6 months of consistent lifestyle change is needed to see results using lifestyle interventions.

I’ve seen a dietitian/nutritionist before and I didn’t think it was helpful. Why would working with you be different?

There is no one size fits all when it comes to finding a therapist. Different clinicians complement different people. My counseling style is more therapeutic vs purely educational/informative. I want to know who you are and the unique challenges you face in your life. I offer an array of evidenced based treatment interventions, including work with cravings and impulse control, hypnotherapy and guided mindfulness exercises, and being a steady presence as you navigate the ups and down of making change throughout your every day life.

Most insurances will cover medical nutrition therapy benefits at little to no cost to you. The only risk you take is waiting to start focusing on your health.
